Day Sixty-Two: Awesome Possibiliteas

8/14/13, 1:03 AM PDT

Guess what I did today. Go on. Guess. I'll wait.

No, the correct answer isn't "your mother."

If you said "went to the mall," you're correct! Also, I can hear you through your microphone.

Robinson's had a Just Dance arcade station, which cost 50 pesos (a little over a dollar) to play for 30 minutes. My sister really wanted to play it, on the one condition that someone else from our family dance with her. My parents were too public-shy to do it and grandma would probably break a few bones if she did it, so I stepped up to the plate. We paid a dollar...

And we absolutely rocked out. Even though it was my first time playing Just Dance, I figured out that the main thing the Xbox tracked was a person's right hand, so I emphasized moving that.

That's not to say I didn't just wave my arm like a pendulum. I moved the rest of my body too. I looked a little like this, I think:

Yeah, I was fabulous. I actually got a small crowd of people to watch me. I'm not sure if they were impressed that I had moves like Jagger or if they were laughing at me, or if they were just hoping we'd leave so they could use up the rest of our 30 minutes, but a crowd's a crowd.

Might as well get used to it.

My sister and I also WRECKED this hammer smashing game. Check out our sweet high scores.

IGS got nothing on me.
Not too shabby, Megan.

BRING IT, IGS. Also notice my name in 5th place.

We also played this pogo stick machine where all you had to do was jump up and down on a platform. Or at least, we tried to.

It's a really small display, huh?

It couldn't take my massive, massive weight.

I also bought more bursting bubble tea from Cobo. Mango-peach tea with mango bursting bubble things. I bought the same thing from the same vendor so frequently that they actually remembered what I normally get today.

I just became a regular.

Too bad I leave Butuan tomorrow.

RFotD: I haven't posted a legitimate random fact in weeks.

SGAT: Befriended the people that make Cobo tea at the mall.

Day Sixty-One: Dropping Tablets and Cutting Hairs

8/13/14, 12:01 AM PDT

Dad arrived today, a fact that my mom is not too happy about. My other grandma arrived too, a fact that my mom is much happier about. This morning, I was tasked with bringing her stuff to her room, which consisted of two purses, a smartphone, and a tablet. It should have been no problem for a man of my physique.

Basically.

I had a death grip on all that stuff. A white-knuckle, space-Alcatraz, we-will-not-let-you-go death grip.

But my grandma's tablet made a jailbreak. It made the most explosive cracking sound ever. And the back of the tablet broke.

As broken as my future.

I. PANICKED. Literally less than five minutes after she landed, I managed to break something of hers. And not just any old thing either, a TABLET. TECHNOLOGY.

Over a thousand years old and I managed
to break it.

It was only the back plating though, it's not like the screen shattered or anything. And on closer inspection, the damage wasn't too bad either. I put the wires back into the tablet's body and after a bit of ingenuity, I put the back plating back.

Good as new. Right?

In less tragic news (or more tragic, depending on who you are), we went to the mall again today. I got me a haircut.

You don't need to see the rest of me, right?

And I also played with Ice again. The niece, not the state of water.

Yeah, she's smiling, but she secretly wants
to murder me for taking pictures of her.

Ice, about to do the Five Point Palm Exploding
Heart Technique.

My family watched a movie too. My mom, my dad, and my sister watched the Ninja Turtles movie. I, having something against Michael Bay movies, opted to watch Lucy alone.

How dare you do this to me, Michael Bay.

And I mean I watched it ALONE. There was literally NO ONE ELSE in the theater with me. An auditorium for 40, 50 people and I was the only one in it.

It was wonderful. I got to comment as LOUD as I wanted to at whatever happened in the movie, a privilege which I took full advantage of because there's just SO MUCH going on in Lucy that it gets confusing as hell.

Of course, when that random checker dude came in every so often, I'd shut up and pretend that I was a normal, civilized moviegoer. Which of course, that day I wasn't.

RFotD: Lucy would've been a good movie if it weren't so confusing. I mean first it's acting like a revenge movie, then it's all philosophical, then it turns into an episode of Through The Wormhole. What?

SGAT: Learned to keep my films concise.

Day Sixty: A House Party

8/12/14, 12:01 AM PDT

This morning, I blasted through three quarters of A Thousand Splendid. JESUS, that book is INCREDIBLY sad. In case any of you guys are in my school and also reading it for the summer assignment (which is a good chunk of my demographic), I won't spoil anything, but DAMN, Mariam and Laila go through SO MUCH. No kidding, a few times I literally said "oh god, NO" out loud when I read some parts. Considering I'm damn near emotionless when I read books, that's probably the equivalent of making me cry in a movie.

I feel you, Tracy Morgan.

During this sad literature marathon, I let the TV play in the background. Tuned in to MTV, because everything else was too distracting with their words and talk about Ebola and all. Did you know that Asian MTV still mostly consists of music videos instead of crappy, mind-rotting Reality TV shows? Well it does, which is wonderful. I've been writing down a bunch of songs that they've played so that when I get home, I can load up my Spotify playlists with foreign music.

Also, tonight, we had a little party thing for my dad's birthday. A whole bunch of my extended family showed up and brought with them food and a handful of tiny adorable children, which took quite a liking to me after I played couch peekaboo with them.

Ice also showed up to play with my sister. They got pretty absorbed in some iPad game. While they were playing, I slipped my iPhone in between their faces and the screen and took this picture:

Look at that cold stare in her eyes. Get it? HAH.

We also had a little cake.

We couldn't fit 49 candles on this thing.

We had everything we needed for a really fun party. The only thing we were missing? MY DAD.

Pictured: My dad.

Apparently, he's staying in Manila instead of flying down to Butuan with us like he originally planned, a fact that my mother's not exactly happy about.

But hey, she said that if he doesn't show up by today, we'll fly to Japan instead of go back to Manila. So sayonara, Philippines, and konnichiwa, Japan!

"Konnichiwa, Michael!"

...We don't know anyone in Japan and the only Japanese phrases I know are "Arigatou gozaimasu" and "Gochisousama deshita."

We're gonna die there. But before we do, check out what my cousin can do with his head.

Oh, and Ujeth figured out how to pick his nose.

Mining like it's 1849.

RFotD: I have a video of Ujeth picking his nose but I spared you guys from seeing that. You're welcome.

SGAT: None really.

Day Fifty-Nine: Me As a Baby

8/11/14, 12:01 AM PDT

My new baby cousin Ujeth is SO ADORABLE. AAAAAAAAAGH LOOK AT HIM. (Pardon the weird noises that I make)

I also found a few baby pictures of yours truly. And let me just say: I was a DAMN cool baby.

Muscles Glasses?

Shooing off the paparazzi since 1997.

Mom said if I made ugly faces, they'd get stuck. I was counting on it.

I was so cool that Shaq showed up at one of my parties.

Dogshirts? More like Dawgshirts.

And I also touched a kangaroo.

While standing on the shoulders of men, no less.

I made friends with white people. Huh.

Yeah, I had a pretty great childhood. Even though I can't remember any of it.

RFotD: Baby me is adorable. End of story.

SGAT: None.

Day Fifty-Eight: A Dad Joke to End All Dad Jokes

8/10/14, 12:01 AM PDT

My mom got REALLY annoyed at how everything had a fee in this resort even though there was pretty much ZERO service. And I can't really blame her, since there was a fee for entering the pool, a fee to bring food to our rooms, a fee for extra towels, and a fee for ENTERING THE ACTUAL RESORT EVEN THOUGH WE HAD RESERVATIONS.

So, with the approval of my mom and her thirst for vengeance, we trashed the room that we were staying in. Absolutely wrecked it. Like Miley Cyrus in that one music video except we destroyed more than pop star reputations.

Don't look at me like that, Miley, you know it's true.

Just kidding, we didn't go all "Royals" on our room. We did minimum amounts of trashing. If leaving muddy footprints and watermelon seeds everywhere even counts as "trashing."

Technically, everything's biodegradable, so is it
really trashing?

Also bought ice cream. I missed this stuff in America. Here, they have frozen jelly Popsicles that are just DELICIOUS.

Tastes a lot better than the name suggests, I swear.

Afterwards, went to Daiso really briefly. Found some interesting stuff here.

Katie, is that you?

Unfortunately, the Mike Tyson ones were out of stock.

I'm... not sure what this does.

My sister and I also found this brain puzzle thing.

The strangest maracas I've ever seen.

The goal of it is to divide the two balls by color, one in each chamber. After ten minutes of work, this was as close as I got.

Not bad, huh?

Oh, and one of my uncles (the same one that diagnosed my sister) dropped the WORST (or maybe the best?) dad joke I've ever heard. He made my sister cry by joking about having to cut open her stomach later as part two of her treatment. When she started sobbing, my mom comforts her by saying he was just kidding. To which he replies:

"I'm not kidding. I'm adulting."

I will die here.

RFotD: These updates take awhile to post.

SGAT: None really.

Day Fifty-Seven: Beach Resort, Sans Beach

8/9/14, 6:09 AM PDT

We went to a beach resort today.

Pretty pretty.

Kinda reminds me of a Wes Anderson film. If you squint.

Nice place, huh? Unfortunately, the water pretty brown and murky and I watched an episode of "River Monsters" right before we left so I didn't really feel like testing those waters for any snakehead fish or supergiant piranhas or stuff like that and neither did the rest of my extended family, who also went with us.

Instead, we opted for the nice, chemically-treated, cryptid-free pool. It was still a bit silty, but acceptable compared to the Black Lagoon levels of visibility that the beach had.

Yeah... no.

Brought my GoPro along for the ride. Took a few pictures of the place. Pardon the excessive fisheye use, there was no display on my GoPro and I wasn't quite sure what I was getting in frame, so I went with fisheye to make sure I got everything.

They had a poolside bar, which was pretty cool except they never sold anything.

I was so hungry too...

Making use of the camera's waterproof case, I took this picture of my sister, who just recently learned how to swim.

Good enough to be on a Nirvana cover.

My cousin's cousins also took a liking to the camera. They grabbed it and took a few selfies with it.

Normal.

Obligatory "silly" photo.

Despite the silty water, they also tried underwater selfies.

It worked... decently?

They all look like they're in pain.

I got in there too, took a big ol' group shot.

One big happy, first-cousin-once-removed family. I think.

The majority of the time, I played with my adorable niece, Ice, though.

Me and the happiest block of frozen water ever.

She tried to push me over.

She seemed to take a liking to this game that involved yanking my hair and pulling me underwater until I said sorry for something minor like splashing her with water. At one point I was under for 45 seconds and she panicked when she thought she killed me so she pulled me out of the water manually.

Dangerous? Maybe. But how do you expect to have fun without government terrorist interrogation methods?

"ARE YOU HAVING FUN?! ARE YOU?!"

At night, the pool lit up. And not just the boring white lights either. It flashed between red, green and blue so quickly that if Japanese kids were in the pool, they would've thought they were watching the Porygon episode of Pokémon.

I'm still trying to figure out whether or not that last joke is offensive. While I decide, have this gif of me showing you exactly what I mean by "epilepsy hazard."

Alright, I caught that video right when the lights started slowing down, but it's trippy regardless. Equally trippy? They had water arches that had LIGHTS THAT RAN THROUGH THEM. You know how optic fibers work? Yeah, same principle but with beautiful glasslike water. It's hard to put into words, so just look at this gif I made.

Trust me, if I knew how to make HD gifs, I would.

I also got a pic of one of the lights after I briefly cut the water.

Oh no, it didn't explode in midair, that's a water droplet messing with
the picture.

Let's end with a few other cool shots I took.

Notice my cousin in the background, stepping on a poor seal.

No, his head isn't curved like that, it's a fisheye lens.

RFotD: I have a ton of these to post.

SGAT: None really.
